Support Technician

Role Overview

Aptella are looking for a Support Technician to join their team based in the South Island. This is a full-time role reporting to the Region Manager. The primary objectives of this role are to provide support to customers in relation to service, hire and sales of GIS/Mapping, GPS, Total Station, Machine Control and Software solutions.

Ideally you have a background in Surveying or similar discipline and have a strong interest in technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical phone support to customers, diagnosing and troubleshooting faults related to electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Managing Support Cases within the Case Management Framework, ensuring timely resolution and accurate documentation.
  • Conducting Field Support for Geo-Spatial products and Machine Control products, including installation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Performing technical installs involving wiring, cabling, sensor installation, hydraulic system interfacing, and mounting of hardware to heavy machinery.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, communication issues, and system integration problems on-site.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical manuals to assist with installations and repairs.
  • Internal Support for the Field Services Team, providing hands-on technical assistance and mentorship as needed.
  • Liaising with customers to assist with delivery requirements, system setup, commissioning, and operational handover.
  • Delivering structured training to customers on the use, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of Geospatial Products and Machine Control systems.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles in compliance with service standards and safety regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair complex electrical and mechanical faults both in-field and remotely.

About You:

  • Trade qualification in Auto Electrical, Heavy Diesel Mechanics, or similar field (highly desirable).
  • Experience installing and servicing electronic control systems, GPS hardware, sensors, and telemetry equipment.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments, sometimes under tight timeframes or in remote locations.
  • Experience with surveying practices, techniques and concepts
  • Experience with survey data preparation and various software packages
  • Background in GPS & 3D Machine Control
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Team oriented, excellent interpersonal skills and positive outgoing personality.
  • Goal oriented, outcome focused, performance driven.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships.
  • Sound computer skills and ability to use Microsoft Office applications.
