What is a Rotary Laser Level?<\/h2>

A rotating laser (also known as a rotary laser level<\/em><\/a>) is an advanced laser level that spins a beam of lightning-fast enough to give the optical illusion of a solid 360-degree plane. These planes can be horizontal, or vertical. Illuminating not just a solid and static line, but lateral planes.<\/p>

Not to be confused with a laser \u2018measuring tool\u2019 which defines space and distance between multiple objects, or a laser pointer which is used in presentations, or playing for endless hours with your cat; a laser level sends a bright beam of vertical light in the form of a line onto flat a surface with supreme accuracy.<\/p>

For example, a rotary laser level<\/a> is helpful whether being used inside or outside. It\u2019s used to determine and continuously show a consistent level of elevation when building up, driving, and\/or drilling down.
Most rotating lasers will also self-level – typically when positioned within four degrees of level (depending on the manufacturer). Some will also let the user know if it has been thrown off-course. It\u2019s often referred to as a \u2018height alert\u2019 feature \u2013 meaning the laser will stop working and alert you if it\u2019s height has been bumped out of level.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How to Use a Rotary Laser?<\/strong><\/h3>

A manual level can do the job, but for large construction projects; it\u2019s simply not efficient enough. This is where rotating laser levels<\/a> become the users\u2019 best friend.<\/p>

So, take it out of the box, and let\u2019s get started!<\/p>

Step 1. How to Calibrate a Rotary Laser Level<\/strong><\/h3>
  1. Place your rotary laser level on a flat surface or tripod in a room with two walls that oppose each other.<\/li>
  2. Situate the unit 2.5cm from one wall, and at least 50cm from the other wall.<\/li>
  3. Align the laser along the axis of the vial (bubble) you want to level. The vial should point to both walls.<\/li>
  4. There are two (2) screws on your device that will correspond to each vial. Tune these screws until the device is level along the two axes. Both vials should show bubbles resting between the two black lines.<\/li>
  5. Turn on the laser<\/strong><\/li>
  6. Visually mark where the laser hits the closest and furthest walls.<\/li>
  7. Reposition the laser 2.5cm from the furthest wall.<\/li>
  8. Level the laser and adjust the height (if using a tripod) allowing your beam to correspond with the mark you made on the other wall.<\/li>
  9. Circle back to the first wall and measure the difference between the first mark and the laser line.

    Your\u00a0 laser is calibrated correctly if the difference is less than or equal to your level\u2019s specified accuracy<\/p>

      1. If it is larger, your rotary laser needs more calibration (continue)<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><\/li>
      2. Adjust the laser so it beams in the middle of the two marks you measured (this mark is true level<\/em>)<\/li>
      3. Lastly, remove the screw cap for the bubble vial and adjust the vial until it is level.<\/li><\/ol>

        Congratulations, your unit is now correctly calibrated. Time to get to work!<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

        Step 2. Use a Rotary Laser Level<\/strong><\/h3>

        Set up your laser level. This type of level is best used on an elevated flat surface. A tripod is the best choice but sawhorses, buckets, and step ladders will also suffice.<\/p>

        1. PLACE the level on your chosen surface and turn it on
          1. If the device is self-leveling, allow it time to find level (one-two minutes).<\/li>
          2. If it requires manual leveling, consult the user’s guide on the proper procedure to ensure correct measurements.<\/li><\/ol><\/li>
          3. LISTEN for the receiver to beep to indicate a connection with the laser.
            1. The laser cannot be seen in broad daylight.<\/li><\/ol><\/li>
            2. AIM the laser level at the surface at which you want to find a level.
              1. Make marks and lines to guide installation.<\/li><\/ol><\/li>
              2. REPEAT this step for new lines, planes, and levels that need to be found.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
