Fixposition AG, a Swiss-based supplier of high-precision positioning technology and the inventor of Vision-RTK, has joined forces with Aptella to offer customers in Australia and New Zealand the Vision-RTK 2, a fully integrated solution for vision enhanced centimetre-level positioning to accelerate field robotics.

Aptella supports the construction, infrastructure, mining, agriculture and related applications where high accuracy Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning is required. The company’s agreement with Fixposition will enable customers in Australia and New Zealand to enhance positioning accuracy, particularly in challenging environments where signal is obstructed or inconsistent.

The Fixposition Vision-RTK 2 solution augments GNSS signals using inertial measurement units (IMUs), visual odometry and other sensors, combining multiple technologies in a single platform to compensate for any individual sensor weakness.

“Aptella has extensive experience supporting industry with centimetre-level GNSS correction services for infrastructure, precision farming, and digital twin projects through our AllDayRTK network,” said James Millner, GNSS Infrastructure Manager at Aptella.

“When it comes to mass-devices or field robotics applications, and inspections for digital twin models, there are additional challenges to maintain positioning integrity and reliability in congested spaces,” he added. “Our collaboration with Fixposition offers our customers an efficient, reliable and cost-effective solution that is backed by our engineering expertise.”

Early beta access at Intergeo 2023 to xFusion Cloud, the cloud-based Vision PPK post-processing platform by Fixposition.

Fixposition’s xFusion real-time high-precision positioning engine is unparalleled in the robotics space. Now xFusion Cloud takes post-processing kinematics (PPK) to a whole new level by integrating vision and providing unlimited high-precision position and orientation information regardless of GNSS availability.

“Our early access program for xFusion Cloud will empower our shared customers to enhance application positioning capability, mitigating the impact of GNSS signal obstructions on performance,” stated Lukas Meier, Co-founder and CTO of Fixposition. “With xFusion Cloud, we ensure centimetre accuracy everywhere.”

To showcase the solution in a real-world scenario, Aptella and Fixposition will present together at the upcoming IGNSS Conference in Sydney early next year.

“We recognise the growing demand from application providers for a robust positioning solution that excels in challenging GPS scenarios. The Vision-RTK 2 delivers precision at an accessible cost, meeting their needs,” said Peter Mardaleichvili, Fixposition’s Head of Product Management. “We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Aptella, experts in RTK GNSS technologies, to support local customers in Australia and New Zealand.”

The need for accurate, widely available positioning precision is growing rapidly across a diverse range of applications, that are working in confined spaces or through urban environments that can obstruct or deny GNSS signals. , Fixposition has bypassed these challenges by including visual odometry and support for vehicle speed models in order to maintain position integrity. “We’re excited to work with partners throughout Australia and New Zealand to further our region’s adoption of industry-leading GNSS and sensor fusion technology, Millner added.”
