Manual inspections still ask a lot of rail teams. Someone has to walk the track after a storm, or check on machinery working close to trackworkers. Both take time, take resourcing, and put people at risk to do work that technology can increasingly do for them.Â
At AusRAIL 2026, Aptella is showing rail operators, engineers and asset managers two ways this is changing.
MonitoringÂ
Automate what’s currently manualÂ
On the Sydenham to Bankstown Track Monitoring project for Sydney Metro, Aptella installed 562 sensors across 10 stations for clients John Holland and Laing O’Rourke, reporting hourly. That’s continuous visibility into track condition without personnel needing to enter the corridor to get it.Â
See what isolated inspections can’t show youÂ
A single inspection is a snapshot. Hourly data from 562 points across 10 stations is a trend line. It’s the kind of volume and consistency that lets engineering teams spot movement or degradation long before it becomes a safety issue, insight a scheduled site visit simply cannot provide.Â
Supported from design to handoverÂ
Aptella doesn’t just supply the sensors. The team supports the full lifecycle, from design and installation through to configuration and handover, so your team knows exactly what to expect at every stage.Â

Innovative Safety Solutions – Topcon AwareÂ
A leading cause of harm in rail environmentsÂ
People and plant interactions are a leading cause of fatalities in Australian construction and rail environments, accounting for roughly 65% of the 195 fatalities recorded annually. Confined rail corridors, where mobile plant works close to trackworkers, make this risk especially acute.Â
Three years of proof in the fieldÂ
Aptella has spent three years working with rail operators and Presien to deploy AI vision safety technology across mobile plant, detecting human presence within prescribed proximity zones and alerting operators in real time, while minimising false positives so work isn’t constantly interrupted. On one network alone, this has covered around 40 machines, with a proposed next phase extending coverage to over 350.Â
The next generation is hereÂ
At AusRAIL 2026, Nick Corr and the team are showcasing the Topcon Aware System (TAS), Aptella’s lead safety technology, with hardware on display alongside Blindsight.Â
Come and see both in action. Andrew Jones and Nick Corr will be at Booth 244, showing the new FLX Rail and the Topcon Aware System, from 23 to 25 November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.Â
