Focus FX Synthetic Base Station – FAQ Fact Sheet
What is the Focus FX Synthetic Base Station?
The Focus FX Synthetic Base Station is virtual GNSS infrastructure, generated from a surrounding network of physical CORS. Designed to eliminate the need for a nearby physical base station, it delivers high-accuracy real-time positioning using advanced atmospheric modelling and network correction techniques. This new approach enables survey-grade performance in areas where deploying traditional infrastructure is impractical, offering flexibility, scalability, and rapid deployment for modern GNSS workflows.
Key Benefits
- No physical base hardware required onsite
- Centimetre – level accuracy and improved precision – reducing height fluctuations
- Rapid deployment for temporary or remote projects
- Scalable across large geographic areas
- Compatible with RTK grade GNSS rovers and NTRIP clients
- Generates RINEX files and continually monitored
Typical Use Cases
- Rapid deployment for construction and mining sites with no nearby infrastructure
- Emergency or disaster mapping and re-establishment
- Surveying in remote or infrastructure-sparse regions
- Temporary GNSS deployments for short-term projects
- Elimination of potential multipath or signal interference
Technical Requirements
- Survey or GIS grade RTK GNSS rover
- NTRIP client ideally supporting RTCM 3.x formats (MSM)
- Reliable Internet connectivity (4G/5G or Starlink / Wi-Fi)
- Subscription to AllDayRTK
Limitations
- Dependent on adequate CORS coverage and CORS quality
- May not meet Regulation 13 traceability for legal surveys
- Accuracy and precision can vary in areas with poor geometry, multipath or quality
- Requires a stable internet connection
Support and Integration
- Managed by Aptella under the AllDayRTK network team
- Integrates and supplements managed services and Focus projects
- API and mountpoint configurations available for enterprise users
- New map feature to select suitable FX coverage areas
