Operational Technology Specialist (Auto Electrician)
Rockhampton & Capricorn Coast, QLD

May 1, 2025

Role Overview

We are ideally seeking a qualified Auto Electrician for work in the Bowen Basin who brings strong hands-on field fitting experience installing safety systems on heavy mining equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of Operational Technology (OT) within the mining environment and be confident working across a variety of heavy machinery platforms. BMA induction and Standard 11 are highly desirable.

This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same. Some days you’ll be in the field installing safety systems and supporting site operations; other days you’ll be fault-finding, updating software, integrating operational technology, or fabricating brackets and mounting solutions to ensure equipment is installed and functioning correctly.

The role is primarily based in the Bowen Basin, working closely with mine sites across the region. The successful candidate will be provided with all tools required to succeed, including a service vehicle, laptop, and phone.

What You’ll Do

  • Install, commission, and maintain advanced mining technologies, including high-precision positioning, fleet management, and safety systems.
  • Support collision avoidance, proximity detection, and site-wide monitoring solutions that enhance operational safety
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot auto-electrical and network-related faults using advanced diagnostic tools and software platforms
  • Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and performance optimisation to ensure reliable and compliant operation
  • Complete equipment fit-outs, custom bracket fabrication, and on-machine installations to meet site and safety standards
  • Promote a strong safety culture by following procedures, conducting risk assessments, and identifying hazards on every job
  • Accurately complete job documentation, safety checklists, and service reports
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, OEM diagrams, and wiring layouts to support safe and compliant installations

What We’re Looking For

  • A trade qualification as an Auto Electrician
  • Strong hands-on technical and field fitting experience.
  • A proactive, safety-focused approach with a willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable with FIFO rosters and working in remote environments.
  • Good communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • A valid C-Class driver’s licence (HR, EWP, or Working at Heights tickets a bonus).
  • Mining experience is great, but not essential if you’re eager to grow.
